Crataegus - Hawthorn

Native to all temperate areas of the northern hemisphere, with as many as 200 species along with many hybrids, widely used as a hedging plant and grown for its flowers,    Fruits and leaves have culinary and medical uses,   Flowers can be anything from white to dark pink single and double in structure. Bark is smooth when young but fissured with age, wood is resistant to rot.

General Care

Full sun, hawthorn are very tough plants they can stand any amount of wind so long as the soil is kept damp, they are susceptible to mildew so spraying with fungicide throughout the season is helpful, strong rooted but do not like to be dry,
