Ulmus parviflora - Chinese Elm

Native to Eastern Asia this tree is now among the most widely spread species of tree, suited to almost all temperate climates, quick growing and easily propagated.  It is very popular with almost all forms of gardeners as hedging, bonsai, specimen, landscape and patio trees.  Its small leaves and bright green tones enhance many garden features.

General Care

Full sun, they can be hungry plants in early season so need to be fed well for the first month of growth then little and often.

Trim new foliage throughout the season to maintain shape.  Propagation is as easy as any tree taking cuttings  or air layers.  Root cuttings are also very simple

Protect the roots when potted as they are susceptible to frost damage.  Chinese Elms are very resistant to most diseases,al though scale insects do like them, so best to treat accordingly.
